Milwaukee, WI – On Wednesday, January 14th, a group of concerned central city residents and inner city business owners met to discuss the prospects of green collar jobs in the Milwaukee area. The meetings are meant to be a brainstorming sessions for individuals who are looking for ways to get involved in and discuss the growing green movement.  The meetings are being facilitated by the Campaign Against Violence and The League of Young Voters Education Fund.  Several local elected officials have been invited to this unique event.

"We want to help people have a conversation," says 20 year old LaNisha Martin who worked this past fall to educate voters about the importance of the green jobs movement.  "During the election we found out that a lot of people were interested in the green economy. We want to make sure that the people in our targeted neighborhoods are informed and a part of the conversation."

With the highest unemployment rate in five years, a new report shows that Milwaukee can create thousands of jobs and reduce the unemployment rate over two years with an initial investment in the green economy.  The Obama-Biden comprehensive New Energy for America plan states it will help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years.  Bringing together our constituents and elected officials, will allow meeting participant to identify key components, benefits and economic opportunities for businesses and concerned residents throughout the city of Milwaukee.
