Fighting back on Election Day

Here is the rapid response campaign we launched in the middle of election day:

We need your help to spread the word. In many states people have received deceptive text messages and emails saying that because of long lines, they should wait to vote until Wednesday. Of course that is not true.  Today is the final day to vote!

It's just another illegal attempt to confuse people and suppress the vote.  On top of that, once again we're facing unacceptably long lines at polling places around the country.

We need to act now! Here's what you can do:

  • Spread the word. Send txt messages to your friends, hit them up on myspace and facebook, forward this message, etc.
  • Here's a sample txt msg you can send:
    • Today is the last day to vote! Make sure u stay in line and vote on entire ballot. If u have problems dont leave, call 866-OUR-VOTE

  • If there are long lines in your area, go out there and help people stay in line! Entertain them, sing songs or poetry, encourage them, bring them snacks, whatever you have to do.

  • Anyone in line by the time the polls close is entitled to vote, no matter how long it takes.

  • Anyone having problems at the polling place can call 866-OUR-VOTE.

  • No matter what the news says, tell everyone to stick with it. Nothing is ever "in the bag." Every single thing on the ballot is important, not just president. And every vote will count in the end.

And once this is all over, let's really talk about election reform again.  Enough is enough.

Keep pushing,
The League
