Get in the game!

We're in the thick of the election season, and in case you've been living in a cave, it's bananas out here.

The Giants upset the Patriots.  Barack Obama won the League's primary election on Facebook by 33 points.  Something huge is happening, and young people are leading the charge.

Real talk, though.  A President can only do so much by him or herself.  Truly changing this country needs to happen block by block, in every city and every town.  So it's time to get off the sidelines and get in the game....

There are tons of ways to get involved -- here are a few:

  • Vote.  That's kind of an easy one, but it's gotta be on the top of the list.  Find your polling place (You can see when your state votes here).
  • Educate and Inspire.  Talk to your friends and family about why you are supporting your candidate.  People listen to their friends and loved ones more than commercials, mailers, or anything else.  Or you could just forward something like that Obama music video that's been going around.
  • Post a local voter guide on theballot.org and pass it out in your community.  If you've already done the research, share that knowledge help others vote.  It's also a good way to connect with other activists in your area.
  • Register.  If your friends aren't registered yet, gently tease them for being left out and then use this moment to make sure they register in time for November!
  • Election Protection.  If you're concerned about election shadiness in your community, form an election protection task force with your friends -- put up signs with PFAW's election protection phone number in your community on election day (1-866-OUR-VOTE), or sign up to help Video The Vote, or hook up with a local election protection organization in your area (CA, GA, IL, NY click here).
  • Volunteer at the polls.  It's always harder to steal the election when good people are working poll sites.
  • Party. Host a results-watching house party.  Grab some food, grab some drinks, grab some friends, shout at the TV, maybe even celebrate some history in the making.  Building with people socially is a big step towards building with them politically.

Whatever it is, just get off the sideline -- it's 2008.  Let's get cracking.
