March 4th Day of Action for Public Education in CA

Join the League and thousands of teachers, students, and CA residents in demanding more investment in public education!

MARCH FORTH!
Every year publicly-funded education continues to be dragged kicking and screaming to the chopping block.  What should be one of the most important cornerstones in a strong democratic foundation has literally been defunded to death.  And with a crumbling foundation, so goes the rest of the house.  You know the drill: less schools=less jobs=more prisons.  The League of Young Voters is taking action!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The San Francisco League is joining with thousands of students, teachers, youth leaders and organizers to demand real change from Sacramento and beyond!  Walk-outs and protests are set to erupt across the state of California tomorrow.  Parents are pulling their children out of school early to demonstrate, and universities are literally emptying into the streets to say with one voice: People Before Profit! Money For Education, Not For Prison!

THE DEMANDS:
Stop the budget cuts! Expose Prop 13 and the impacts it's wreaked on our education system! Offer progressive alternatives to taxation! A zero-based budget that puts kids first! Lift the enrollment cap on higher education!

GET INVOLVED!
Join the League, Coleman Advocates, HOMEY, PODER, POWER, Filipino Community Center, La Raza, Teachers 4 Social Justice, SOMCAN and high-schools and middle-schools across the City for an eastern neighborhoods rally at 3:00pm at the corner of 24th Street BART.  From there we'll be marching to Civic Center for a 5:00pm rally organized by UESF.  To hook up with the Youth Contingent, meet us at the statue between the Main Library and the Asian Art Museum!  The League will be marching with the youth contingent, so look for us and get your hands on a "Pissed At Prop 13!" zine!

PISSED AT PROP 13
Help us distribute this hot educational tool beyond March 4th! There will also be an Education Town Hall put on by the community on March 10th at Balboa High School.  We're going to be breaking down the how/what/when/why of Prop 13 and discussing ways that we can reform this education killer.  We'll also be talking about what we can do to help save our classrooms locally.  The zine is an awesome tool that we hope you copy and put out to your networks.

March forth and demand justice!
