Just In Case You Missed It....

Just In Case You Missed It....

The League's general meeting just passed, but don't worry there are many more to come!!! Wondering what happened at this meeting, let me put you up to speed....

Heather Box goes nuts when the League wins $1000

You helped the League win $10,000!!!!

The Case Foundation ran a crazy contest on Facebook's Causes app.  They're donating cash to the causes that have gotten the most donors over the whole month.

In the last 30 minutes we almost got knocked off the list, but then a groundswell of support came pouring in from League family around the country who grabbed their friends and family and propelled the League to a huge victory.

And we won TEN THOUSAND SMACKERS!!!  That's on top of $11,600 from the donations themselves and $2000 from winning two one-day challenges.  By now, you math whizzes out there have computed a whopping total of $23,600 from over 600 small donors.  That's mind-blowing.

And yes, another video is coming soon.  (To see Heather losing her mind when we won a one-day challenge a couple weeks ago, check this video.)

The League is speechlessly and madly love everyone who donated and helped get their friends!

Donations went to the League of Young Voters Education Fund, our sister organization and a 501c(3) non-profit organization, so they are tax-deductible.

If you missed it, it's never to late to show your love:  donate to the League of Young Voters here.

Marc Powell, left - Julian Davis, right, on the veggie powered bus on election day 2007

We have something they can only dream about

Rolling around on that veggie oil powered bus yesterday passing out voter guides I had the feeling that somehow we had discovered THE way to campaign.

Those guides were flying out of my hands not to mention the significant number of people who said to me "I voted and used that". I remember the days when the league was printing up 500 guides. I am told there were 10,000 this election, which makes me really proud of the progress the League is making.

What a Day!

What a Day!

Well November 6, 2007 has come and gone and what a day it was.  The results for our election won't be in for two weeks because we hand count our ballots out here but we can safely say that today was a good day in a name of youth voting.  The League of Pissed Off Voters guides were hotter than ever this election!  10,000 voter guides flew off the press and into the hands of young voters in just 10 days.  We couldn't print them fast enough!  Yes, it was a sleepy election with low voter turnout but election day was dominated by youth energy as the League rolled in its 40 foot veggie bus and  got out the vote!!  Thank you to Wired Rootz for the bus, the love and the dedication to a better world!

The results from the election to come! Thanks for your love.

League Liberates Ballot Arguments from City Hall

League Liberates Ballot Arguments from City Hall

Every year when it's time to do the research for our voters guides we have a hell of a time finding the information we need to understand all the confusing things on the ballot.  The Department of Elections boils it down in a voter info booklet with all of the arguments for and against, BUT they don't post 'em online - COME ON!

SO....we had  to go down to City Hall during work hours to get a hold of the ballot arguments, man it's a lot of effort to be an engaged participant in Democracy! ...And costly, we found out that If you want to make photocopies of the arguments they cost 10 cents a page!! The ballot arguments can total over 100 pages.

So this year, we took matters into our own hands. We lugged a printer/scanner down to City Hall and set up shop. Two hours later, we offer this gift to the San Francisco political public: the ballot arguments for the 2007 election!*
