Title: Senior Development Associate

The League of Young Voters family of organizations is looking for a Senior Development Associate.

We are a national organization run by young people who want to help our peers build power to solve the problems in our communities. We engage young people who have been shut out of the political process to make politics fun, relevant, and meaningful.

Our work in the field includes voter registration and mobilization, especially among "unlikely" voters; local, state, and federal level issue advocacy; electoral organizing, training and leadership development; and community and youth organizing to bring new voices to electoral politics.

The Senior Development Associate will work from our Brooklyn, NY office.

About this position:
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, including mastery of both grants and major gifts; a track record as a strong team builder; a gift in oral and written communications; gift at connecting personally with donors and staff; a long-term orientation toward fundraising that emphasizes the importance of building a community of deeply invested donors; eagerness to work in close partnership with the League’s develop director and executive director on securing the resources for the League’s important work; and a demonstrable commitment to progressive social change and youth issues.  

Responsibilities:

•    Helps to cultivate relations with—and funding from—foundations by developing and overseeing the grant-writing process, including supervising the annual grants budget and calendar, writing of grants and reports, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions, and identifying and cultivating prospective foundations.
•    Oversees the creation of donor materials.
•    Ensures that all gifts and pledges received are recorded, reminded, and acknowledged in a timely manner.
•    Coordinates with League’s finance team to ensure that pledges, gifts, grants, and other revenues are properly recorded in the organization’s financial records, forecasts, and budgets, and that grant budgets and grant reports align properly. Pays attention to the interface between development, nonprofit accounting, and budgeting.
•    Guides and motivates staff and volunteers
•    Recruits, trains, and coaches development interns and volunteers.
•    Arranges meetings and phone calls to cultivate and solicit donors.
•    Represents the organization publicly in person as needed.
•    Helps to coordinate all individual giving to the organization through the major gifts program and the member program. S/he helps to establish and report on fundraising campaigns, evaluation criteria, and budgets; adjusts campaigns/programs with an eye toward overall growth, efficiency, and scalability; and develops campaigns/programs in ways that create a culture of donor recognition, involvement, and stewardship throughout the organization.
•    Cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors
•    Is an energetic and outgoing advocate for the organization who enjoys spending a substantial fraction of her/his time interacting with donors, prospective donors and foundation staff in meetings, phone conversations, and at events (often in the evening).
•    Willingness to travel to conferences and meeting for up to 7 days.
•    With help from other staff and volunteers, identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospective donors, and recognizes and stewards major donors through education and involvement.
•    Plans and coordinates intimate events to promote interest in the League and to motivate donors to make the League their organization of choice for major gifts.
  • Coordinates the development of a long term fundraising plan that will help to diversify our funding base for long-term sustainability.
