The Step Up to the Plate Awards are a first-of-their-kind in Portland, recognizing young social entrepreneurs in nine categories including: Green Professional, Start-Up Businessperson, Urban Ecologist and Technology Maven.

In addition to the presentation of awards by local personalities, the evening of festivities will include food, music, and a silent auction with as many as 75 local goods and services.

Wescott, a business owner in Carrabasset Valley and top-ranked snowboarder, will be on hand to raffle a hand-signed snowboard, to premier a new video aimed at engaging youth in entrepreneurial ventures and to speak to attendees.

“When I’m not out traveling the world competing for the U.S. Snowboard Team, I live and work here in Maine. Maine is an exceptionally special place for me; having grown up here, it’s very true to my heart and I love the time that I get to be here in the off-season,” Wescott said in a special video invitation to the Step Up to the Plate Awards. “Since winning the Olympics in 2006, my life has become pretty hectic … but I’m really proud to support the Step Up to the Plate Awards as they recognize the outstanding achievements of young people in the Portland area.”
