At first glance, it's just another Halloween bash. Among the group of young adults, one finds "Mr. T," a witch and Lady Liberty. But upon closer examination, one realizes -- there's more than candy driving these young adults in costumes.

At first glance, it's just another Halloween bash. Among the group of young adults, one finds "Mr. T," a witch and Lady Liberty. But upon closer examination, one realizes -- there's more than candy driving these young adults in costumes.

"This is so important because by doing this we're going to turn out the vote, seven to 12 percentage points more," said Maria Schirmer, an organizer with the League of Young Voters -- a non-partisan group that has endorsed a slate of primarily Democratic candidates.

It's called "Trick or Vote," a program sponsored by the League of Young Voters. On Friday night, about 70 young adults -- some of them in high school -- went door to door, looking for voters. They targeted voters ages 18 to 30, who have voted infrequently or not at all.

Earlier on Friday, four teenagers walked the streets of Edina, also trying to get out the vote for the Republican ticket. According to officials, both efforts are absolutely typical in an election season that's seeing an unprecedented involvement by youth.

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie announced nearly two-thirds of newly registered voters in Minnesota -- 90 thousand people -- are under the age of 30. Organizers of "Trick or Vote" aren't surprised.

"It really says something to the direction of the country, and they realize their vote does matter, which way we'll go in the next four years," said Camille Cyprian, the Regional Coordinator for the Twin Cities League of Young Voters.
