Hey League,
Remember that email a couple weeks ago that said that we at the New Mexico League were headed to the state capitol to lobby for statewide clean elections? We did it. And remember how we were hoping to have 500 signatures to show we had support from young people around the nation?
Well, you did it. In three days, more than 700 of you signed on. And when we went to the capitol, that sent an important message to our elected officials: young people everywhere want corporate dollars out of our democracy.
So far, we've moved almost all of the Campaign Ethics Bills through the House (all but HB822--the State Ethics Commission Act). Now we're going to push them through the Senate too, and you bet we'll let you know when we win this.
We are so damn proud to be a part of a group that strives to make a difference by supporting one another, and refusing to rest until all of our battles are won. Soon they'll start to see that our movement isn't just some fad or trend. It's a way of life.
Peace,
Charlotte Chinana
