We're Hiring! New Media Organizer

Job Opening: New Media Organizer

Employer: The League of Young Voters / The League of Young Voters Education Fund
Location:
 Brooklyn, NY

The League of Young Voters and League of Young Voters Education Fund are looking for a highly-motivated, organized, and experienced New Media Organizer. The New Media Organizer will assist in the management and expansion of the League's online properties, utilizing our websites, email/phone lists, and social media platforms to accelerate list growth and effectively develop the League's online brand. Responsibilities include content creation for various platforms, execution of online campaigns, development of communication calendars and the synthesis of League communications best practices.

The ideal candidate for this position will combine an artistic sensibility with pop-cultural awareness and the jack-of-all-trades flexibility of a computer nerd. The New Media Organizer will be an integral part of the League's Online Department, pushing the boundaries of creative online organizing to keep the League's brand cutting edge.

The League is a national non-profit comprised of local community-based organizations working to engage young people who have been shut out of the political process. Our work in the field includes voter registration and mobilization, especially among "unlikely" voters; local, state, and federal level issue advocacy; electoral organizing, training and leadership development; and community and youth organizing to bring new voices to electoral politics. Previous experience organizing in a non-profit setting or on electoral campaigns is a must; familiarity with the online cycle of engagement and a proven track record of delivering an effective call to action is a plus.

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven success managing multiple social media platforms, generating positive results (increased traffic, email list sign-ups, online actions taken)
  • Familiarity with graphic design software and video editing software: Final Cut, Premiere, Photoshop, GIMP, etc.
  • Online / Field Organizing background (or prior campaign experience) is a major plus
  • Experience developing leaders and communicating technical ideas in understandable language, creating support documentation when necessary
  • Knowledge of web design protocols/practices and some experience in HTML, CSS, PHP

YOU'D BE PERFECT FOR THIS JOB IF...

  • You're funny: you've got clear character and know how to make any story interesting
  • You're politically savvy and pop culturally literate: you know the ins and outs of the political world AND the name of Lady Gaga's new album (no cheating)
  • You were born to network, and we're not just talking Facebook
  • You've got incredible attention to detail.
  • You're grounded: you understand what is and is not realistic, but are flexible enough to problem-solve towards the completion of the larger objective
  • You've got marketing savvy: you understand how the pieces fit together and can manage multiple arenas
