Your Voting Rights in Maine

Find out all you need to know about your voting rights in Maine!

KNOW YOUR

VOTING RIGHTS.

PORTLAND: Do you know where you polling place is? Yeah, we know--they keep changing 'em up on ya! But here's an updated list, and here's a place you can search by your address!

MAINE: Do you know where your polling place is? And who's running in your district? You can find out here!

To register to vote: you need a current ID, and proof of address. A driver's license or state ID can provide both, or you can rock your checkbook, a bill with your current address, along with a social security card, birth certificate, or a fishing license.

Are you a student? You can vote! Being a student equals residency in your area. You just need to supply proof of residence, which can be your school records or any bills if they are sent to your dorm. Your Residence Hall Coordinator can also supply you with a proof of residency. (Just keep in mind that changing your voter registration to where you go to school will remove your registration at your permanent address, until you choose to move back.)

Not registered yet? Think it's too late? Think again! You can register up until and ON Election Day. Just bring all the proof of residency and IDs you need, and you are set.

Show up to the polls and don't have the right IDs? Cast a challenged ballot! Proof of ID and Residency can be proven after a ballot is cast.

Still in line at the time the polls close? You still have a right to vote. Don't let them turn you away!

No time on Election Day? You can VOTE EARLY! Voting Early starts 30-45 days before any given election at your City or Town Hall.

If you have any problems, or you are denied the right to vote, call the Elections Division immediately at 207-624-7650.
