The Opportunity:

The Maine League of Young Voters, League of Young Voters Fund (LYV/LYVEF) and League of Young Voters PAC is seeking a unique, qualified individual to lead these organizations in all aspects of program and development, as we head into 2010 and beyond. This is a demanding position in an innovative, exciting, fast-moving local affiliate to a national organization that engages young people under 35 in political action, issue campaigns, and community organizing.

The Maine League of Young Voters Education Fund and the League of Young Voters are is committed to building a progressive majority in our lifetime by mobilizing young people to create just, equitable, and sustainable communities.  The Maine League of Young Voters Education Fund and League of Young Voters makes politics relevant, accessible, and fun by empowering and engaging young people in social and civic action.  We achieve these goals by raising awareness through education, and providing tools for leadership.  We collaborate with organizations and individuals to solve problems in our communities.

LYVEF/LYV have staff in Brooklyn, NY; San Francisco, CA; Milwaukee, WI;  Pittsburgh, PA;  Albuquerque, NM;  Portland, ME.

***The League of Young Voters PAC (LYV PAC) is a political action committee in the State of Maine for young people under 35 to build a progressive majority in our lifetime. We develop leaders and build political power through elections that reflect our core values. Membership independently endorses candidates, ballot questions, and referendums and then work to ensure victory for our endorsees. We hold our candidates accountable to our agenda at the local, state and national levels. 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

·       Organizational leadership experience, which may include but not be limited to any of the following:

o      Leading a team in a major organizing campaign

o      Managing employees and volunteers in a business or non-profit environment

o      Experience with organizational and board development  

 

·       Experience in one or more of the following fields:

o      Labor, community or youth organizing

o      Electoral field campaign

o      Legislative or policy experience

o      Other relevant experience in a progressive organization
 

 ·       Experience managing fiscal budgets

o      Planning and analysis

o      Fundraising

o      Reporting

 

Responsibilities:

 

 

·       Articulating and facilitating the implementation of LYV & LYVEF's vision, mission, core values, and primary strategies, both internally and externally.

·       Hiring, managing and evaluating staff and contractors.

·       Establishing and fostering an effective organizational culture and systems that help achieve organizational goals.

·       Overseeing, with the oversight of the Steering Committee, fundraising of the budget and ensuring financial, legal, and ethical responsibility within the organization.

·       Overseeing the development of programs and alliances that reflect the organizations’ core goals, culture and strategies.

 

Reporting Relationships:       

The State Director will report to the Executive Director of the National LYV/LYVEF.  Direct reports will include administrative and program staff, independent consultants and contractors. 

 

 

Salary

 

Commensurate with experience.
