Positions Available: Paid Door-to-door Canvassers
 
Description:     Educate and engage voters through face-to-face conversations at the door
 
The canvasser will:
 
• Participate in a training and on-going training
• Receive education on gay marriage and the issues of the campaign
• Conduct him/herself in a professional manner
• Record daily knocks, contacts, conversations, and tally them
• Assist with database development
• Gather accurate data
• Canvass voters by walking in neighborhoods and towns assigned by the Director
• Participate as a member of a team with a common goal; aiding when necessary
• Participate in other areas as assigned by a supervisor
 
Skills and qualities needed:
 
• Basic understanding of the electoral process
• Strong commitment to the cause and outcome of the campaign
• Enthusiastic, flexible, and outgoing
• Capable of routinely making “cold” phone calls or door knocks
• Able to work with diverse groups and individuals
• Able to read a map
• Able to follow specific directions
• Able to walk from targeted home to targeted home in a systematic way
• Able to work with other canvassers in a professional and helpful manner
• Willing to take on small and large tasks with equal enthusiasm
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to remain ethical under all circumstances
 
Location:    Portland, Maine with travel inside the state
 
Timing:             From Mid-Oct to November 3, 2009
 
Salary:    Up to $1,400 for ½ month, possible travel to and from Maine, and possible housing
