Maine Organizer
League of Young Voters (LYV) and
League of Young Voters Education Fund (LYVEF)

 

The Maine League of Young Voters is committed to building a progressive youth movement to create just, equitable, and sustainable communities.  We work to empower and engage young people in the political process through education and political action.  Working with other organizations and individuals, we are holding decision makers accountable to issues young people care about, including access to education, health care, and the environment.


DEADLINE for submission: July 19

Responsibilities:

- Continue to grow the organization's statewide reach and overall effectiveness through volunteer recruitment, training, management, and core/base development
- Focus on managing and developing a key Portland-based group of volunteers, while also working to build a volunteer base in other key areas across Maine.
- Collaborate with co-workers and volunteers to develop and execute events, taking key roles in the coordination and implementation of these local and state events
- Work assertively to identify volunteers who will take leadership roles within the organizations campaign work and event planning
- Be the "public face" of the organization: professionally represent the League at conferences, trainings, workshops, and community events
- Develop a consistent and thorough awareness and understanding of local politics
- Work with and support our Local Issues Committee.
- Maintain a multitude of organizational databases that involve volunteer and member information
- Keep on top of current arts, social, and social justice events going on in the local and statewide communities
- Build and maintain strategic, tactical relationships and alliances with key organizations in the Greater Portland Area
- Report regularly to State Director with written documentation of outreach results                                                                                                                        

Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum 1 year of experience in political and/or community organizing.                                                         
- Demonstrated commitment to economic and social justice. 
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- Must demonstrate an ability to take on responsibility and also know when to properly delegate responsibility to volunteer base
- Must be highly organized, able to prioritize time effectively and able to multi-task.
- Must have a lot of initiative. 
- Demonstrated experience and passion for community-building work
- Campus organizing experience is a plus
- Must be a great team player! 
- Must be resourceful and creative, able to work with a small budget
- Willing to travel extensively - driver's license a must
