Rent G.R.E.E.N.
Our steering committee got together and devised this slick new campaign. We've never seen anything like it, have you?
Check
out our new Rent G.R.E.E.N. campaign, it's not only a
pocketbook issue for young Portlanders, it also connects environmental
stewardship, renters rights, economics and consumer issues. We like
transformative solutions that are taken directly out of the lives of
young people, do you? Rent G.R.E.E.N. > $ave green
renters and landlords can't afford waste
This long-term campaign is based on individual action, information
for renters and incentives for landlords that will increase the energy
efficiency of Portland's rental stock.
Phase 1 of the campaign is live.
Come to the Real Deal on August 14th to, well, get the real Deal on Rent G.R.E.E.N. It's at 6:00 at Zero Station, we bring the drinks and food, you bring the you. we're hitting the streets every Saturday
So we're telling renters that the League passed an innovative piece of legislation that requires landlords to post the energy efficiency of their rental units. We're getting the disclosure form
in their hands, telling them how much money and planet could be saved
with more efficient apartments and we're asking them to ask their
landlords if they know about the form. Working
together, renters and landlords can fight waste and inefficiencies:
wasted money, wasted resources, wasted energy and wasted time. Because
we're already at their doors, we also encouraging renters to take
immediate individual action to increase their savings, of both money
and Earth. By singing up for 10,000 Carbon Free Homes
renters are given $60. Ok, not really. What they're given is a
"compact florescent light (CFL)" light bulb that will save them $60
over a year in energy costs. That's a bright idea, so is signing up
for 10,000 Carbon Free Homes RIGHT NOW. efficient buildings are maintenance free buildings
That way renters can make informed choices and landlords can save green (money and planets, remember).
Information for Renters

We're
organizing renters by knocking on their doors. We're telling them
about the League and reminding them that there's this huge problem
young people are facing: it's called global warming. And as much as
some East Enders would like to one day live on Munjoy Island and as
much as Old Porters would rather row, than skate down Exchange, we're
not really down with the heat. Individual Action
we're bringing down your energy costs
Incentives for Landlords
This
September we'll be presenting to landlords at the Maine State Housing
Authority conference in Portland. We'll be talking with property
owners about the Energy Efficiency disclosure form. We'll teach them
just how easy it is to fill out (really, it is) and we'll give them
incentives to post the form in their rental units. By educating
renters and landlords about the Disclosure form, we hope to see the
forms hanging in rental units by November.
Involvement
If you think this campaign is as dope as we do, e-mail Tina
to get involved. Or just show up to our Second Floor office @ One
Pleasant St. to canvass with the League on any Saturday. There
are roles to match how you role, everything from knocking on doors and
making phone calls to entering data. The future just called, they said
thanks for helping organize renters and moving Portland's rental stock
towards the efficient side.
