PUBLIC MEETING:

GORHAM EAST-WEST CORRIDOR FEASIBILITY STUDY

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2010
6:00 TO 8:00 PM
GORHAM MUNICIPAL CENTER
75 SOUTH ST.
GORHAM, ME

This study looks to find solutions to the growing traffic congestion on major corridors west of Portland.

Begun in March of 2009, the study may recommend some surprising solutions, including how the region is developed, increasing opportunities for public transit, and improving or adding road capacity. Experts say it will take all three solutions to keep this fast-growing area economically viable while protecting its rural character.

Fully 70% of the population, housing and job growth in the state is projected to occur in Cumberland and York counties over the next 25 years, which already experiences some of the worst traffic congestion in the state.

The core study area includes Gorham, Westbrook, Scarborough and South Portland, but surrounding communities are also involved. Representatives from all these communities have been active in the study, funded by the Maine Turnpike Authority and the Maine Department of Transportation.

The public, including business owners in these communities and other interested persons, are invited to come to the meeting, hear study findings, ask questions and make comments.
