We're damn proud of our partnership with Opportunity Maine
.
We made history, we made a law and we revolutionized the way states can
deal with the problem of student debt and brain drain.
Focusing on the Now...on the Local
That's right - a lot of other youth groups aren't talking 'bout no 2007
election, but we are. Instead of looking ahead to '08 in '07, we're
focusing on the now and on the local: that's League-style. Check out what Mainers will be voting on, what Portland specific races we're working on and ways to get involved in our favorite thing: building community through electoral organizing.
GROWing as an Activist
Have you read this article,
written by Melanie from our Steering Committee, in last week's Maine
Switch? Melanie started coming to the Real Deal last year and now she's
been published, has a great new entry for her resume, a slew of new
friends and is making Maine a better place to live. Here's an excerpt: I think the longing for a sense of community is an aspect of grassroots
organizing -- the desire and willingness to work for a better community
leads to the creation of a better world. Each person's dedication to
improving their area, whether it be through music, art, political
activism, social service work or volunteering, will ensure long-term
change.
