Maine's Energy Future!

It's time to focus on Maine's Energy Future... Our future!

The League and Opportunity Maine want to thank you for your help and support as we worked together to advance our Green Jobs, Green Savings initiative.  We want to create good jobs and economic opportunity for our workers, businesses and communities; cut energy costs and gain energy independence; and ensure broadly shared prosperity and a sustainable environment for this and future generations of Mainers.

Well, the Select Committee on Maine’s Energy Future has put out a very good bill that draws on the many ideas that came before them and the time has come to get this passed!  The bill is a great first step that puts the right pieces in place to make a major investment in energy independence and green jobs.  There is still a lot of work to do to make sure this legislation lives up to its promise, but right now we have to get it passed!

An Act Regarding Maine’s Energy Future (LD 1485) will:

  • Create the Efficiency Maine Trust to coordinate existing funding for energy efficiency with the huge investment in efficiency and green jobs made by President Obama’s American Recovery & Reinvestment Act

  • Create a green jobs investment plan;

  • Invest in new and rehabilitated energy efficient housing

  • Reduce energy costs for homes and businesses
