Get on the Turnpike of the 21st Century:
Join us Thursday to show your support for expanded mass transit!
The Maine Alliance for Sustainable Transportation would like to invite you to a media event at Portland's City Hall on Thursday
morning at 10 am, as we announce our "Turnpike for the 21st Century Plan" - a proposal to redirect a small portion of Maine Turnpike toll revenue to fund better, more wide-ranging regional commuter bus services to York County, Lewiston/Auburn, and Augusta.
These services would do a great deal to reduce Mainers' energy expenditures and reduce congestion in our largest cities. To learn more about this, click here! Bus service throughout southern and central Maine could be obtained for one tenth of the cost of the Maine Turnpike Authority's proposed 9-mile widening project in Portland.
The Maine Alliance for Sustainable Transportation is currently drafting legislation to make this plan a reality, and we plan to introduce it in the State House this winter. I hope that you'll be able to join us on Thursday.
