Charter Commission - Nominations!


Support your city... Run for the Charter Commission! You heard a lot about it this past November in our Voter Guide. Now that it's up-and-rarin'-to-go, take the next step and be on the Commission itself!

Nomination Papers are now available for one (1) district seat and four (4) at-large seats on the Charter Commission.  The Commission is charged with developing a revised City Charter for consideration by the voters of Portland.  Please find details below:

On November 4, 2009 the voters of Portland approved the creation of a Charter Commission. The election for the 9 elected members of the Charter Commission will be held on June 9, 2009.

There are five District seats and four At-Large seats available.

Process for the Charter Commission Election:

Papers are now available in the City Clerk's Office.
Deadline for taking papers out is April 6, 2009 at 4:30 PM.
The earliest return of Nomination papers is March 23, 2009 at 9:00 AM.
Deadline for returning papers is April 6, 2009 at 4:30 PM.

Requirements

To run for one of the four At-Large seats, you must be a resident of Portland for 3 months prior
to filing your Nomination papers.

To run for a District seat, you must be a resident of that district for 3 months prior.

Candidates cannot be an employee of the City of Portland.

Candidates must have 75 minimum/150 maximum signatures for District seats and must be Portland registered voters in that District.

Candidates must have 300 minimum/500 maximum signatures for At - Large seats and must be Portland registered voters.
