CAV Reps at WI State Budget Hearing

On Thursday, August 15th the CAV attended a public hearing on the Wisconsin State budget at Serb Hall. Folks from Urban Underground were also in attendance and repped hard for young people. We even got a shot out from 1290 AM's Casandra Casandra and The Milwaukee Labor Council's Shelia Cochran.
But we weren't there for the shine! Over the last several months WI legislators have been duking it out over the budget. Important issues such as health care, public education and even employee wages are being debated by our elected officials. Sadly, if some politicians had there way millions of dollars would be cut from the Milwaukee Public Schools system. Kinda of crazy right? We couldn't let this go down without our voice being heard.
"I graduated from MPS last year and I am going to be voting for the first time next year, and I want to know how do we stop these cuts? In fact, I want to know how we get more money for MPS?" asked CAV's Lanisha Martin, whose prepared questions were given to a panel of politicians including State Rep. Pedro Colon and State Senator Lena Taylor.
Hopefully, the elected officials that were in attendance will tell their buddies in Madison to stop playing with Milwaukee's school system.
