Campaign Against Violence(CAV) State Director, Jayme Montgomery accepted Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) Lighting Rod Award on behalf of  CAV, Making Milwaukee Green Coalition (MMGC) and Keep Public Our Water(KPOW).

Jayme states, “It is definitely, an honor and a pleasure to accept this award on behalf of all the people that work hard to protect the environment in my community.”

Campaign Against Violence and Making Milwaukee Green Coalition assisted in organizing the community by getting the Milwaukee Common Council to withdraw the idea of privatizing Milwaukee’s drinking water through the KPOW Campaign.

MEA, who celebrated its 10 year for environmental justice, provides the kind of lawyers and expertise Wisconsin communities need to effectively protect the air we breathe and the water. 

MEA gives one Lighting Rod Award per year to highlight the exemplary contributions these individuals and groups have made to the conservation history of our state.  MEA has had the honor of representing or working with the awardees as they have become catalysts for change in the places they call home.

Campaign Against Violence is responsible for bringing together a dynamic, intergenerational group Making Milwaukee Green Coalition to help turn Milwaukee into a Green Municipality.  CAV and MMGC are advocating for green jobs, green businesses and a wide range of green development projects which includes urban agriculture and renewable energy.
